Read books, study the game, play the game, be observant, try to remember everything about every hand you play. It’s not an easy thing to put people on hands and even the experts get in wrong regularly. Keep working on it.

10th out of 45 is pretty good, but remember there is a lot of variance in tournament poker. You might play really well (well enough to win) and come in 10th because you didn’t get good enough cards that time, and might play a little worse the next time, but get the right cards and come in 3rd instead.

If you need help with tournaments and reading hands maybe check out Tips from the Pros archive on http://www.theultimatepokerguide.com there’s some good articles on things like reading your opponents, picking up on things, and tournament psychology.

    Hi,

If you are usually good at putting your opponents on hands, I would suggest going with your gut instinict more often. Sometimes it can be hard to raise or re raise with nothing, but, I will do it if I feel my opponent is weak. I have found that if I go with my gut feeling I am usually right. You are not going to be right all the time and shouldn’t expect to be. That is the best piece of advice I can give you on reading hands.

10th out of 45 people is pretty good. I would suggest playing in some sit n go’s more often. They have some good value and depending on the buy-in, you can win a decent amount of cash if your above average.

One site I think is the best for tournaments is Poker Stars. They have a wide variety of tournaments ranging from Omaha Hi/Lo to HORSE. There is a ton of players there so you can usually find a tournament on almost any variation of poker. They are also giving away a 100% Bonus for new players and it won’t last long. They rarely give a Bonus to their new players. It’s a great site to play at for tournaments or cash games. If you use the link below to sign up, you will automatically receive a deposit bonus:

The best book I have personally read on playing in tournaments is by David Sklansky. It’s called Tournament Poker for Advanced Players. It is one of the best books I have read, and I feel it has been one of the biggest reasons why I am a good tournament player.

Here is a link to some poker books that I personally feel are great resources for learning the game:

Read there minds. 10 out of 45 is good if you win more money than you paid to enter.
