Is Texas Hold ‘Em a Game of Luck or Skill?

It’s a myth that you have to be lucky in cards to win at Texas Hold ‘Em.  This isn’t a game where you’re taking a chance on the cards. This is a game where you’re in control of each move, so while you can’t control the cards you get, you do have options for how you use the hand you’re dealt.

If Texas Hold ‘Em were a game catering to the whim of lady Luck, then the hands would move fast and furious. Fortunately for players of every skill level, it’s not. Each hand takes time – not because the players are praying they’ll get the card they need, but because once they get it, they think long and hard about a strategic play to make to help them win the hand.

Forget the fancy footwork where you’re trying to bluff and maneuver your way through a hand.  With Texas Hold ‘Em, it’s more about how you make the cards work in your favor, and that’s a skill you have to learn.

Sure, luck can help a player get a big pot into his coffers now and then, but on a long-term basis, if your goal is to play Texas Hold ‘Em for money, skill is the only thing that will make you rich.

You want to develop a solid strategy that will get you through the ups and downs so that you win more than you lose.  You have to know how to counteract your opponent’s next move.

If you’re hoping to get rich quick using Texas Hold ‘Em during a short span of time, then luck will play a bigger role than it usually does if you had the time to generate your earnings over time.

Having an edge due to skill requires you to play more than just pressing your luck for a single tournament where someone else may have the edge over you.  If you’re looking at Texas Hold ‘Em as a possible career supplement, then you need to have a blueprint to help you map out your profit potential and paydays.

You’ll need a bankroll to carry you through the ups and downs of the games.  Your bankroll in the game of Texas Hold ‘Em will give you the buffer you need to play strategically and not desperately.

Know ahead of time that every player betting in Texas Hold ‘Em loses, and you have to have enough capital to get you from that loss back over to a profit margin when you recover your money with a winning hand.

Never play more than you can afford to lose.  Manage your money wisely and it won’t matter what kind of luck anyone else has as long as you use your newfound skill to catapult your winnings.
