Congress wants to Ban Online Poker!
Watch this video about online poker:
Watch an expert smack down the arguments that government can stop people from playing online poker. Watch his opponent stumble like a deer in headlights and babble on — only to cave and accept his defeat by the end of what surely will be his first and last TV appearance. (God I love watching old people talk about the internet.) They are discussing one of many controversial bills designed to “control” the internet that has passed favorably out of a congressional subcommittee and may come up for a vote next week. This particular bill would attempt to ban certain types of online gaming — including online poker while at the same time making online bets placed on horse races legal. It is unclear if this is even possible or what the bill would ultimately mean for the internet.

@thetshirtblog i still dont see how a losing golf player is seen as someone to be pittied like a pokie player. He loses alot of money playing golf, but he likes it and chooses too, so what?
The money people lose at the poker table is going into the pockets of the other players at the table, granted the casino takes a rake but in some cases it is feeding, clothing and housing a family. Isnt that better than going into some evil casino fat cats pocket directly from the pokie machine?

I agree with you that people should be able to make their decision. I’m not pro-prohibition. For what it’s worth, I play online poker fairly regularly. I also understand that there are special interest lobbies that are funding efforts to ban online gambling.
I’m simply pointing out the fact that gambling is dangerous for some people, as the example given clearly illustrates. I’m hoping that this is something we can deal appropriately with through regulation.

so what?
other people problems shouldnt effect other peoples lives, thats what our legal system is all about. The casino’s soley back all this crap, hasbro entertainment gives out millions of dollars in grants to get online gambling shafted by politicians
How can you honestly think anything coming from the primary makers of pokie machines in america is going to be a fair and unbiased point of view on online gambling. Not to mention they create most of the problems with gambling in general

@imluvinyourmum I think there is a bit of a difference in that you can’t physically play 100 different golf tourneys in one day.
I like the example one of the interviewees gave, that of a lady winning 10k before going busto. Some people just can’t handle tilt at all, and it’s seems like a very real problem for some people.

its not gambling unless a person just sucks or they go in and just throw down crazy bets with no strategy or anything

i still dont see poker as gambling
is a tennis player gambling when they play at wimbeldon? it can be argued that since they havent wagered any particular set stake that it isnt, but all WSOP players that wear Full Tilt on their caps dont pay a cent for buy ins, in fact they get paid to show up just like tennis players
amature golf players often play for prize money, and also pay for tournament fees. what about strong winds, bad bounces (beats)? remember people enjoy playing poker too

government will be happy having honest skill based business taxed. And rookies will be happy when they get lucky?.Now..only if poker rooms are rigged they will not agree with me. And their stuff will write against this proposition. Put Microsoft in charge!
