A Texas holdem showdown occurs when two or more players were left after the last betting round. In a showdown, a player who’s aspiring to win over his opponents must play the best hand combination he can possibly form out of his two pocket or hole cards along with the community cards at the table. To be able to do that, a player may use either both his pocket cards, only one, or just the community cards to form his final five card hand.
A Texas holdem poker player can always have the option to play by the board if the five community cards that are dealt make the player’s best hand. However, in cases like this, this particular player can only anticipate that he would be splitting the pot with the other players who can also do the same thing.
The pot will be split equally to those players who shared the best hand combination, if there is any extra chips, it will be awarded to the first player who comes after the button in clockwise order. In comparing player’s hands, it just usual for players to have closely valued hand combinations, however there is no such thing as identically ranked hand in Texas holdem poker card game.
In this regard, an individual must be very careful in determining who among the players have the best hand combination. If in case the hand involves two pairs or three of a kind which is fewer than five cards, then kickers will be used to settle the ties. Take note that in Texas holdem suit values are no issue the card’s numerical rank is of sole importance.
Make an effort to make a research about how to play different poker hands for you to be able to learn the types of strategies you can use on a specific hand. In addition to that, you must also find out how your position at the poker table can affect your play. Good luck.
Texas Holdem is currently “the” game to play in the poker world. The rules are fairly simple and so with relatively little information even the newest of players can win a pot or two.
The game works as follows:
Each player is dealt 2 cards face down. Then there’s a round of betting where you can either fold (cast out) your cards believing that they aren’t good enough to win, calling which means placing the appropriate minimum bet into the pot, or raising if you think your hand has a good chance of winning. Once everyone at the table has bet the dealer will place 3 cards face up in the middle of the table. These cards are called “the flop” and are the first of 5 community cards that all players will be able to use in combination with their original cards to make the best possible hand.
Once the flop is shown, there is another round of betting where some players will fold because the flop has meant their hand is not as strong as they thought it was, and others will raise as they’ll now have a better hand than they were originally dealt with. Again, there’s always the possibility to “check” which at this stage means you don’t need to place any more money into the pot, but as with the first round of betting, this is only possible if no-one else at the table has during this round of betting. If someone has raised, then you will need to either fold your hand or “call” which means matching the amount of money placed by the person who raised – or you could raise again if you’re confident that your hand is best.
When betting is completed, then the 4th card, known as “the turn” is placed face up on the table, followed by another round of betting as in the one following the flop. Finally the 5th card, “the river” is dealt face up by the dealer followed by a final round of betting. Once the bets are complete, whoever is still left in the game turns over their cards and the winning hand gets all the money in the pot.
Winning hands:
One of the most important things to learn in how to play Texas Holdem is which hand out ranks another from a 3 high to a royal flush, so in order from least to best the hands are:
Single Card High – you have no pair, no nothing, but you have the highest card of the players left in the game. It’s not unheard of to win with a King or Ace high.
One Pair – a pair of anything, but highest pair wins the hand – your pair of 8s wins over my pair of 4s.
Two Pair – 2 pairs, that could be pairing up your dealt (hole) cards with 2 of the community cards, or if you already have a pair, you could make 2 pair if a pair is dealt in the community cards.
Three of a Kind – also known as a set or trips, you could have 1 or 2 of them in your hand and the others are in the community cards – remember that if you only have 1, it’s possible someone else also has one in which case the other card in your hand (the kicker) will have to be higher than theirs in order for you to win.
Straight – 5 cards in consecutive numerical order of any suit. If there’s more than one person with a straight, then the person who has the highest straight wins – but if both straights are the same, then the pot is split between the players who have the straights.
Flush – 5 cards of the same suit. Simple as that. If more than one person has a flush in any one hand however, it’s the person with the highest ranking flush card that takes home the pot – my Ace high flush will win over your 9 high flush.
Full House – If you get a pair, plus a set – that’s 2 of one card and 3 of another, that’s a full house. It’s a pretty good hand!
Four of Kind – also known as quads – unless there’s a straight flush possibility, or someone else who has a higher set of 4, you are guaranteed to win with this hand.
Straight Flush – 5 consecutive numbered cards of the same suit.
Royal Flush – this is also a straight flush, but it’s as high as it gets (10, Jack, Queen, King, Ace suited) – get this, and you ought to take home the money!
In simple terms Texas Holdem is a poker game where you make the best hand you can from up to 7 cards available – 2 you are dealt with, plus 5 community cards available for use by all players.

Online Poker, specifically Texas Hold’em, can be a very fun way to spend time and possibly even make some money. Before you can go out and conquer the online world, you must first learn the very basics to online poker. The basics are hands, position, and betting.
A necessity to playing good poker is knowing all of the hands that one can play. It should be said that in Texas Hold’em a player is dealt two cards and there are five community cards. A player must use the best five cards out of those seven cards to create the best hand they can. Lets go over the hands of poker starting with the best and going to the worst. The very best hand is a Royal (Straight) Flush, which is when you have a A-K-Q-J-10 of the same suit. A straight flush follows which is five consecutive cards of the same suit. Next is four of a kind which is four of the same card, such as four aces. A full house is the next best hand which is three of a kind plus a pair. An example of a full house would be three jacks and two threes. Following that is a flush which is five cards of the same suit. We are now at a straight, which is five consecutive cards, like 2-3-4-5-6. Following a straight is three of a kind. Next we have a two pair, which is having two of two different numbers. An example would be two aces and two fours. Following is a pair, which is two of a card. Last we have a high card, which is simply your highest card. Once you are able to master the hands you are ready to play poker for fun, but until you master position and betting I would not recommend gambling.
Position is one of the most important things in poker, other than your hand, when it comes to gambling. Position is where you are in the betting, or where you are seated at the table. Position is usually broken into three categories: early-position, mid-position, and late position. Early-position would be the first three people to bet at a ten person table. Mid-position would be the next four people at a ten person table. Late-position would be the last three people to bet. This may seem weird to put so much emphasis on where you are sitting, but it really determines what you can get away with betting. If you are in early position you are not going to want to bet unless you have a very good hand, because others could raise you and if your hand is not great you may not want to call the raise. In mid-position you can get away with betting a little worse hand, but it still has to be a good hand. In late-position you can usually get away with a lot, especially if others at the table have folded. One of the key strategies to keeping your money is to raise the pot when one person at the table has called. This can only be done in late-position though so you have to make sure that no one will raise on that hand. If someone raises it usually means they have a good hand, opposed to a call which usually signifies they just want to see how the flop goes. If you raise with one person calling, they usually will not call your raise and you will get the blinds (money two players put in to stay at the table, this rotates every turn). Now that we know about position I am going to step back and talk about betting.
Online Poker and Offline Poker can be very different when it comes to betting. In the online world you should not call the majority of your hands. Most players will say that you should never call and always raise. This is a good mantra for whether or not you should put money in the pot, if you are not willing to raise than you should not be calling. That being said in order to even call a hand you need to have a decent hand. Usually I will only call if I have two cards of ten or higher. I will definitely bet if I have a pair or two of a suit of tens or higher. Some players may say that this is to conservative of a strategy and in some applications it is a very conservative strategy. What it comes down to is you have to analyze what the table is doing and then set your limits for when you will call and when you will raise.
Poker hands, position, and betting are definitely the three keys to succeeding in online poker, but there is one last thing that must be considered and that is mindset. One should only approach online poker in a positive, happy mindset when one is ready to relax and have fun with the cards. If you approach online poker in a negative or tired mood your game (and bankroll) will suffer. Online poker is a game where you must pay attention and focus so that you can make good bets that will make you money.
