My Top 5 Poker Tournament Tips
The following is a list of My Top 5 Poker Tournament Tips. Previously, I had difficulties playing poker tournaments. I would either be out of the tournament extremely early, make it for a while but get crushed, or get pretty far but never actually make it to the money tables. Once I learnt a bunch of poker tournament tips things got easier. So I decided to share the tops ones with avid poker players like you.
The thing is, if you’re currently not experiencing the success in poker that you would like, it isn’t your fault. The reason you are losing likely has nothing to do with you, its just the information you have been provided wasn’t good enough. This isn’t surprising seeing the sheer amount of bogus information available on the Internet these days. The great thing is, winning poker tournaments doesn’t require hundreds of hours of practice time, complex strategies or memorizing charts and tables. You just have to follow some good guidelines like those outlined below.
Top 5 Poker Tournament Tips
#1 Aim For First Place
The single most important tip I can give you for success at a poker tournament is to aim for first place. Enter and play in the tournament with the plan, no, with the expectation that you are going to leave there winning first place. Don’t let anything stand in your way and definitely do not settle for second best. Some of the most destructive things you can do to yourself is think ‘If I can just get to a money table’ or ‘I’ll be happy if I get in the top 5′.
#2 Be Careful What Cards You Play
You need to be extra careful what cards you do actually play in the tournament. For the most part, if you lose all your chips in a poker tournament you cannot buy back into the tournament. You are out, that’s it. It’s this fear that really strikes a lot of people because they are scared to lose. You just need to be a little more careful with what cards you do play. This gets less important at the final tables but for the start you want to be a little tight. And avoid coin-flip hands like the plague.
#3 Pay Attention To Everything
It’s imperative you pay tonnes of attention to the game at hand from the start of the tournament right through to the end. Lazy players and those that get bored concentrating so much are not the types of players that take the first place cash prize. You’re watching to notice players styles, characters, the moves they make, how they respond to actions like being raised when they are in the blind as opposed to not etc. etc. This information will be crucial later on when you are up against them at a different table.
#4 Steal Blinds Whenever You Can
Stealing blinds is the forefront way to get in a great position to win the tournament. If you concentrate on just doing this single act alone you will have 100 times the chance of winning compared to someone who isn’t. Picking up blinds whenever you can, and ruthlessly stealing them from weak players is important to building your stack. And you’re going to need a big stack if you expect to win at the final table.
#5 Don’t Give Up, Ever
Its no doubt you’ll have ups and downs in poker tournaments. You win some and you lose some. You will take bad beats, you will get unlucky and you will definitely be faced with a small stack sooner or later. The most important thing you can do is to never give up. If you stop playing tournaments all together you won’t build up the experience to be able to win them. Remember, it is possible to come back from having a small stack to win a tournament!

There are many times in an online poker tournament that your opponent makes questionable plays with sub-par hands that leave you asking yourself things like: “What on Earth was he thinking?” Of course in the online poker world that is a very charitable way to rephrase it, but I hope you get the meaning. It’s usually even more astounding when such seemingly poor plays get rewarded, and all of a sudden, donky boy in seat 4 is the tournament chip leader, poised for a nice payout.
The reasoning of this article is not necessarily justification for the all the questionable plays that you see, but to perhaps enlighten you as to why some of the plays are made as a result of certain players really knowing and understanding the payout structure of a tournament.
Let’ take for example the 180 player multi-table sit and go tournaments at Poker Stars. This tournament pays the top 18 players or 10 percent of the field no matter what buy in you select. For the $4 buy in tournaments, first place can win you $216, a whopping ROI of 4800%. If you make the final table in 9th place you make about 300% ROI, nice but paltry compared to first, nonetheless a profit.
Here is where payouts get a little more complicated or for some, more simple, in this tournament. From 18th place to 10th place you earn $8.64 prize money or 100% ROI. All of these positions pay exactly the same.
Now making the money is no simple task, but it can be done on regular basis with a solid strategy behind you and a good hold of your emotions. That’s a good strategy for building your bankroll, but it’s not going to elevate your game level too soon either, by just inching into the money then fading away.
It’s during the in-the-money (ITM) stage that your risk window should be wide open, especially when the payouts for half the field are exactly identical. Shooting for that 4,800% ROI should much more analysis with regard to your poker tournament M and Q, as well as your hole cards. In fact, you can say that sitting in 14th place of 17 players left, while you are in the Orange MZone, your hole cards can actually matter very little compared to other factors.
This is also true if you were actually in 1st of 17 players left with a very healthy Green MZone stack and are faced with an all-in bet from a Red Mzone stack. In this spot should call with a wide array of hands like King-x suited, all kinds of connectors, any ace, any pair, and any two face cards. Some will call with any King or Queen as well. There is a poker calculator called Tournament Indicator that has a very unique feature called Match cards that lets you know how your hand measures up to potential hands your opponent may be pushing with.
The point is, in tournaments, you need to be aware of all of the indicators as well as the payout structure and marry that with your bankroll expectations. If you are able to do that with some precision, you may in fact realize that the donkey knew more than he let on.

Montana Texas holdem poker uses four major variations of Texas holdem. They are distinguished from each other by their betting limits. They are limit Texas holdem – there is a pre-determined betting limit on each round of betting; no limit Texas holdem – a player can bet any amount, up to all of his or her chips; pot limit Texas holdem – a player can bet any amount, up to the size of the pot and mixed Texas holdem – the game switches between rounds of Limit Texas Hold’em and No Limit Texas hold’em.

In Texas holdem poker each player is dealt two private cards called hole card and no one else can see them. Five community cards are dealt face-up, to form the board. All players in the game use these shared community cards in conjunction with their own hole cards to each make their best possible five-card poker hand. Make sure that you have familiarized yourself with best poker hands and its ranking so that you will know what best hand you can form.
The dealer button indicates which player is the nominal dealer for the current game. Like other forms of poker, the available actions are ‘fold’, ‘check’, ‘bet’, ‘call’ or ‘raise’. After seeing his or her hole cards, each player now has the option to play his or her hand by calling or raising the big blind.
When the betting action is completed for the flop round, the ‘turn’ is dealt face-up on the board. The turn is the fourth community card in Hold’em. When betting action is completed for the turn round, the ‘river’ or fifth card is dealt face-up on the board.
And then the last one is the showdown, the part where we will know who won the game. All players who remain in the game reveal their hands. The player who made the initial bet or the player who made the last raise shows their hand.

I host poker parties and think it would be a nice touch if I had my own poker chips. I would like my own custom logo (with value denominations) on them. I would also like to choose my own colors and edge spots. Where can I get these made, and how much do they cost?
I know where to get poker chips. I already have poker chips. My question is: “where can I get custom made poker chips?”
Poker chips that are sold in retail stores are not custom made.
Custom made poker chips will have a personalized (full-color) logo printed in the center and the chip colors will be my choice.
I do not want hot-stamping either.
